Oh Happy Day è una canzone che nasce come inno religioso nelle prima metà dell’Ottocento che è stata poi riscritta e reincisa dagli Edwin Hawkins Singers, gruppo gospel che l’ha inserita nell’album Let Us Go Into The House Of The Lord del 1967.

Solo due anni dopo la canzone, visto il successo riscosso, viene pubblicata come singolo e, in pochissimo tempo raggiunge il secondo posto della classifica inglese e il questo di quella degli States.

Una curiosità sul brano: in italia è considerata una canzone legata al Natale, ma, in realtà, Oh Happy Day è un inno legato alla resurrezione e, quindi, alla Pasqua.
